NotebookLM is preparing new features to make its notebooks easier to understand

You may have come across debates on social media platforms and forums about whether Google NotebookLM is as useful as people think. While this may take forever, no one can deny that AI tools are productivity boosters, as they save time creating and organizing notes and documents. What also caught users’ attention was that Google made significant changes to the platform very quickly.

A few days ago, we reported that Google was working on several new features to help users quickly find the notebook they are looking for. While it’s still in development, we recently learned about another upcoming NotebookLM feature. This time, the goal is to help users better understand what a notebook is.

NotebookLM will give you more context about your notebook

Currently, when you create a notebook, NotebookLM automatically creates a title based on the source content if you don’t create it manually. The title is currently the only way to know the contents of the notebook before opening it. However, this is not the smartest way to do it, especially when you have several notebooks on similar topics.

As discovered by leaker TestingCatalog, Google is working on a new feature that will finally address this issue. It is being developed to generate automatically and allow users to type notebook summaries manually. If you don’t set a custom summary, NotebookLM will automatically create a notebook custom summary, which will be refreshed every time you open the notebook.

If you are not satisfied with the brief AI-generated description of the notebook’s contents, there will be an option to replace it by typing in how you would like to describe the notebook. While the title is useful for learning about the contents of the notebook, the summary provides additional context to the user. So, if you have several notebooks on a similar topic, a summary can help differentiate them, giving you a clearer picture of what each notebook contains.

In addition to this feature, two other customization options are in the works for NotebookLM users. According to TestingCatalog, Google is also testing the ability to set avatars and creator names. You’ll see the avatar on the notebook cover and the notebook title on the home page, while the creator’s name will appear next to the avatar.

There’s no word on when they’ll arrive at NotebookLM, but since they’ve been leaked, it’s safe to assume that Google is close to preparing them for release. So, maybe you won’t have to wait months to use the new feature. Meanwhile, you can learn unique ways to use NotebookLM.
