Google’s At a Glance Widget is finally getting the change we’ve been waiting for

The Google At a Glance Widget can be a real time saver, allowing you to see the data you want, quickly, when it matters most. Of course, for this information to be useful, you have to actually be able to read the data first.

Until now, this was not always possible, with the words of the widget sometimes blending seamlessly into the wallpaper behind it. However, that has now changed, with a new high contrast background mode seen rolling out.

A small change that has a big impact

The folks at Android Authority highlighted the change, and one user shared their discovery on Reddit. As mentioned previously, this new change will make it easier to see text in Google’s At a Glance widget. The new option can be found in the settings menu. Once this option is selected, a pop of color will be added to the Glance widget.

Now, this makes the widget look less sleek and sleek, but overall, you get a lot out of the change. Although this is not a big change, it will have a big impact on the future. Therefore, it is important to note that this appears to be currently only available to those using the Android 16 QPR3 beta.

Additionally, there is a possibility that a new Google Play system update is also required. This last part is a bit odd, as we reported a day ago that Google was rolling back the January 2026 update, and devices are now running an update labeled November 2025.

It’s unclear what’s happening at the moment, but if any of this becomes available to you, along with the Android 16 QPR3 update, you’ll likely see a new high contrast mode for the At a Glance widget. Of course, if you’re not too worried about these changes, you can ignore all of the above, or just turn the feature off if you have it.

However, overall, we think this update will be a great update for most people and will be a huge success when it is finally released to the public. At a Glance is still a hit or miss for many people, so hopefully this will get us in the right direction.
