Apple TV on Android is finally getting the feature we’ve been waiting for

It’s been a few years since Apple launched its own streaming service, and while its content library isn’t as deep as some of its competitors, it tends to have some interesting programming. Of course, Android fans have been in the dark for years, as Apple recently released an Apple TV app for Android.

And while it’s pretty good, there’s one big feature missing — Google Cast capability. Luckily, Apple released one more thing to close out the year, namely Google Cast capabilities from the Apple TV app on Android (via 9to5Google).

Great addition

While Apple TV is already available on most streaming platforms, it’s nice to be able to play something from your phone and cast it to whatever Google Cast-compatible device is in the room. As you might expect, there aren’t any major changes to the app, but there will be a new button that lets you cast on almost any screen within the Apple TV.

Once you start the casting process, you will be shown controls such as play, pause, rewind, and fast forward. You’ll also get controls for subtitles and audio preferences. So, if this is something you’ve been looking forward to, we recommend grabbing the latest update to the Apple TV app from the Google Play Store, which comes in version 2.2.

While Apple TV may not have a huge library like Netflix, it does have some well-known shows that are enough to attract the attention of viewers. Perhaps one of the biggest hits of the year is F1 Movies, which is now available to stream, along with a new show from the creators of Breaking Bad called Pluribus.

This streaming service also offers some critically acclaimed shows like Ted Lasso, The Morning Show, Slow Horses, but has something for almost everyone. If you’ve never tried it, we recommend checking it out, at least during the trial period, to see what’s going on. Unfortunately, Apple isn’t very generous with its trial period, only providing a seven-day period, so you might as well take advantage of it.
