The Government Low Payment Commission (LPC) has confirmed its central estimate for the April 2026 National Living Hage (NLW).
They currently estimate the 4.1% increase to NLW, taking the tariff to £ 12.71.
The estimated increase is seen to ensure that NLW does not fall under two thirds of median income.
However, the LPC indeed highlighted the challenges with NLW predictions, marking that the projected range around the estimated center runs from £ 12.55 to £ 12.86.
The estimated central and range has increased since they were previously issued with the May consultation.
LPC states that the predicted increase is due to ‘Average wage growth’ It has been proven stronger than estimates, which in turn has also increased the estimated wage growth in 2025.
Commitment to improve living standards
In connection with NLW, LPC states: “The government is committed to improving the living standards of workers and this is the main focus of the government’s growth mission.
“That is why the government asks the low payment commission to ensure that the national wage rate does not go down under two thirds of the British median income for workers in the national wage population, the size recognized from low -hour salaries.
“The low payment commission must consider living costs, estimated inflation between April 2026 and April 2027, the impact on the labor market, business and competitiveness and carefully considering a wider macroeconomic condition. “
Current Minimum Wage Rates
On April 1, 2025, the current national minimum wage level (NMW) is as follows.
NMW level starting April 1, 2025 |
Annual increase (£) | Annual increase (percent) | |
| National Life Wages (21 years and over) | £ 12.21 | £ 0.77 | 6.7 |
| 18-20 years old level | £ 10.00 | £ 1.40 | 16.3 |
| Tariff 16-17 years | £ 7.55 | £ 1.15 | 18 |
| Internship level | £ 7.55 | £ 1.15 | 18 |
What is the next step?
Thelow Payment Commission added that their recommendations were purely formula, because they were required to consider economic conditions.
Thus, they have suggested that these numbers must be considered as an indication.
It was confirmed that at the end of October 2025, they would give advice to the government about the official tariffs of NLW and NMW for April 2026.
